Industrial Fillers

Animal Feed

Franklin calcium carbonate is the most widely used source of calcium for animal feed in the United States. We mine from our extensive reserves of the purest limestone with calcium carbonate levels in excess of 97 percent and proven solubility. Then, applying our advanced testing and blending procedures, we tailor feed calcium of the highest quality to the application at hand and the size and dietary requirements of the animal.

Glass and Fiberglass

Calcium carbonate from Franklin is the most extensively used limestone in the US for producing glass and fiberglass. It is preferred by these manufacturers for its chemical purity and particle size consistency. Franklin is North America's largest supplier of limestone to the glass and fiberglass industries.

Coatings, Adhesives and Sealants

Promoting one-coat coverage, increased opacity, enhanced long-term durability and our ability to precisely control micron size, Franklin's calcium carbonate is in demand by manufacturers of paints, coatings, caulks, adhesives and sealants.

Fertilizer Filler and Agricultural Lime

The quality and dust free properties of our limestone make it ideal as both an absorbent and a carrier for fertilizer products. In addition, the high purity of our limestone products yields a very high neutralizing value.

Plastics & Rubber Compounding

To meet the requirements of plastics and rubber compounders and molders, Franklin manufacturers a wide variety of mineral fillers, reinforcers, mold release agents and fire retardants that enhance the performance of polymer systems ranging from PVC pipe to cable to automotive and truck parts. Due to their consistency and high chemical purity, our mineral fillers can be used independently or in combination, depending on resin formulation and user requirements.

Floor and Wall Covering

Carpet, and Ceramic and Vinyl Tile are industrial filer markets where Franklin's versatility in producing custom gradations becomes a critical component in a successful customer/supplier relationship.

Roofing Materials

Roofing manufacturers represent a market with demanding volume requirements and the potential for significant changes in demand on short notice. Franklin's customer commitment and supply guarantees through multi-plant support have acheived preferred supplier status. Other: Welding rods, driveway sealants, and industrial caulking products each require different, yet consistent products. Franklin services each of these industries and more.

Chemical Processing

Manufacturing Processes: Many chemical manufacturing processes incorporate calcium carbonate in the manufacturing process. In these instances low insoluble residue, high available calcium, and technically competent support are critical to successful ongoing supplier partnerships. Franklin has achieved preferred supplier status at several customer locations. In many instances Franklin has been brought in for support and assistance during customer efforts in product development.

Environmental Applications

Fluidized Bed Combustion

The consistent quality and particle size distribution of Franklin's products, combined with the high absorbancy of our limestones makes these materials preferred reagent products for fluidized bed combustion. Calcium carbonate from Franklin is currently used in both industrial and utility FBC units.

Water and Wastewater Treatment

The high calcium levels present in Franklin's limestone materials and their excellent solubility have led to the acceptance of Franklin's chemical grade limestone for water and wastewater treatment at several locations.

Construction Aggregates

People most often associate limestone with road-building and two of our plants, Crab Orchard and Texas Aggregates produce State approved aggregates for that purpose.
